staffing world
Temporary employment sucks, for some...for others it can be a blessing in disguise. Some people are lucky to find a direct hire position within a company that they are on a temporary assignment for, others not.
The other day I had to end an assignment for this lady who is a reliable, trustworthy, hard worker, a quality candidate. She has four children and supports them on her own along with her mom who has taken ill. It crushed me a bit to have to tell her at the end of the day when she was picking up her check that it would be her last day & not to return to our client's site. Yeah, just like that. She can go back on unemployment, sure but she does not want to. She really wants to work, and she has had some great jobs with well-known companies. It's what I call bad luck timing, right now. This was not meant to be for whatever reason, which she understands.
When I went to the client's office to pick up her belonging's, of course the hiring manager was not around to discuss why she was let go....but they want us to replace her.....so not on my priority list. Counseling & assisting my associate will be. Even though this is not 'how it goes', it is 'how i go'...just cannot let clients treat you or your hard work like a doormat, should counsel them on what the deal is...in a professional way. Always keep that balance, it's a skill and a talent in itself, either you got it or you don't.
So back to the box of her thing's. I carried it out to my car, opened my trunk to place it there, checked to make sure what she had on her emailed list was in there and there were the pictures. Of her kid's. I closed my eyes, then the lid and felt really bad. I couldn't imagine being in that place. I assured myself & the next day assured her that we would help in every way with any resources we have. I've already given her some contact information that is very helpful.
Being in the staffing industry, there are always contacts at other firms or companies. There are consultants, search specialists and recruiters whom I've worked or networked with. So it's nice to be connected, you never know.
